Class Information

The one-day event will consist of three classes taught by Diane Schultz and Aimee Filimoehala (Graphic45), Adri Swart (Prima Marketing inc, Ranger, PanPastels, FaberCastell) and Glenda Viljoen (Ranger, Tim Holtz Idea-ology, Core-dinations, BoBunny, Crate Paper, Authentique, Celebr8, 7gypsies, Canvas Corp).

The classes will include scrapbooking projects and layouts, introducing mixed media art techniques.

Mixed Media is such an exciting term. It is the rage at all overseas events. No one interprets it the same way. It opens a whole new dimension to our craft. Is there a correct definition to Mixed Media?

One definition is adding alternative and traditional techniques to what we already do. It is that simple! You do not have to be wildly artistic or creative. It simply requires trying something new. Ultimately, the way we Scrapbook will never be the same. It brings dimension and new techniques to our craft. Everyone interprets Mixed Media differently. Mixed Media can be as simple as using an ink pad on paper!

We essentially have been doing Mixed Media in South Africa for years. We have used acrylic paints and chalks. We have played with inks. We have used modge podge, gesso and crackle paint. In fact, as South Africans have always had to adapt and find alternatives to products not readily available here, so for us it is natural progression.

Diane Schultz and Aimee Filimoehala

Graphic 45
, an award-winning scrapbook and paper crafting company— owned and operated by a mother and her two daughters.

Diane Schultz—Designer and CEO (aka mother)
“I'm passionate about being creative and eager to make it possible for others to find their creative voice. My background includes stints as a designer for, McCalls, Simplicity, Vogue/ Butterick, Mattel Toy Company and a host of other jobs that each, in some way, led me to what I do now. At 45 I went back to school and got my degree in graphic design— I named the company to celebrate that achievement.”

Aimee Filimoehala—Director of Operations
“I wear a lot of hats and love it that way.  Business, marketing, operations, etc. have made me a pro at multitasking (aka juggling‑figuratively and literally). When we launched Graphic 45 just three years ago we had no idea what was in store, working together as a family has been an amazing journey that we all feel so grateful to be apart of."

Charee Filimoehala—Director of Customer Service and Design Team Coordinator
“I joined the team a little over two years ago and haven’t looked back…what a life-changing experience this has been.  I love working with and around creative people and products (not to mention I like my co-workers quite a bit).  I spend my days working with our friendly stores and talented design team…the occasional trip somewhere warm is pretty nice too.”

Together we create vintage inspired crafting products that capture the flamboyant style of the 1920's and 30's - with vibrant color, irresistible texture and imaginative design to create products with decades-old appeal that's both fresh and familiar. Let our products inspire your next scrapbook layout, card, album or home decor project.

As for our classes we always encourage our attendees to come flocked in the vintage garb...pearls, fun hats, old gloves, etc.
There will be prizes for those flocked in vintage garb...

In 2010, she attended Ranger University in New Jersey, USA and is now a certified Ranger Instructor. This has enabled her to educate and inspire others in the use of inks, stains, paints and embossing products.

Her contribution to the scrapbook industry in South Africa, the United States and Australia has opened doors to teachers from these countries both to showcase their work and companies’ products and so to enhance the scrapbook industry in South Africa. Adri Swart

Adri Swart

Adri Swart studied Teaching with Art as her major subject. She was commissioned to paint the life size canvasses for the school concerts. After 18 years in the teaching profession she started her own art gallery and studio at home. A few exhibitions in oils followed with teaching art lessons during daytime. During this time, she was contracted by a toy company to design a Ninja Turtle workbook range for the movie the ‘Mutant Ninja Turtle’, which was exported to China.

Her art began as a little girl with art tools of soft pebbles in hues of ochre from the stream and the rocks as her canvas. Scrapbooking became a part of her life in 2000. She used nuts and bolts from her husband’s garage, acrylic and rust paint, wax crayons and metal on her layouts. People thought she was ‘nuts’, but that was the art she knew and loved. The mixed media in scrapbooking soon defined her style.

Scrapbooking has opened many doors for her like opening a new shop in Zimbabwe and attending Ranger U in New Jersey, USA in 2010. Her work has been published and she won two competitions at previous SA Scrapbook Conventions. The first was in 2008 when she won the ‘Dress and Accessory' Papercraft category and in 2011 she won the ‘Life is a bowl of Cherries’ Charity Scrap Challenge.

She believes that life is indeed a bowl of cherries, therefore every morning, she chooses to seize life's opportunities with both hands.
